Becoming A Water Dog

Yesterday we went to the lake. We loaded Morgan, Norma Jean and Samba with all their life vests and toys and towels and drove to J's house where Splash, Gracie and Runtley were waiting for us.

My dogs and Runtley got dressed in their vests while Splash and Gracie wore their swim harnesses.

Once we were on the boat, Samba checked to make sure the treats were safely on board.

Then we were under way to the swimming cove.

Let's play!

Samba, Morgan, Gracie and Splash couldn't wait to get in the water and start retrieving toys. We could hardly throw them fast enough.

Even Runtley was ready to get wet.

Norma Jean wasn't sure. She watched from the boat for a few minutes, but everyone was having so much fun.

Pretty soon she got off the boat and splashed around in the shallow water. I let her do whatever felt comfortable.

Soon it was time for a break and treats.

The dogs waited while the humans had lunch.

After lunch it was time to swim some more.

Norma Jean was showing more interest.

Then she saw a toy floating and nobody showed any interest, so she went after it.

 Gracie stopped to watch.

Look who's swimming.

Now there was no stopping her.

She was swimming each time we threw the toy.

She was really enjoying the water.

Runtley was watching her tennis ball.

Got it!

This was something I had hoped for.

Finally it was time to head home.

Runtley was tired after a busy day of fetching her ball.

Grace is always sorry to leave the swimming cove. She could keep going for hours.

Samba had a wonderful time.

Morgan was tired.

Norma Jean showed that she's a true water dog and is looking forward to teaching Tess and Noah on the next trip.
