What's For Breakfast?

It was hot overnight. When I took the dogs out at 11 last night, it was still 83 degrees. Tess woke me at 5:40 this morning and as I stumbled out the back door with them, this is what I saw.

At first there were peachy streaks in the sky.

The sun started peeking thru and it was all purple, peach and yellow.

Finally the sun got control and it looked like another hot, sunny day was ahead. After feeding the dogs I went back to bed and I thought I heard thunder. Yep, thunder rumbles, none of the loud banging stuff and we even got some rain. Good.

July in Missouri brings out lots of critters. Some are cute and helpful, some are horrid , stinging monsters or things that eat every bit of green vegetation in sight. This is a firefly, one of the good guys. I love to watch them in the yard at night, twinkling like little stars.

The butterfly bush brings in a lot of visitors each day. Here is a small moth.

A bee has to check out each flower on the stalk.

Butterflies, of course, check in. I think they get drunk on the nectar, as they fly around in circles and come back to the bush again.

This is a spotted skipper. We get a lot of them.

Remember this picture from last weekend? Morgan was waiting for the lizzard to come out from under the rock. When it did, she missed it.

This morning Morgan moved a big rock by herself and there was the lizard.

She got it this time. She was ready to eat it for breakfast, but I managed to pull her away from it.

She had injured it so badly that it didn't survive. Rob put it in the chiminea and we cremated it.

Morgan was very angry with me. She worked hard for that lizard and thought she should be able to eat it. She wouldn't look at me and didn't want to come inside with me. I had to drag her in. What did she have for breakfast?

Look at this. Just to prove that I can cook, here's a picture of the cherry coffeecake I made last night. Rob brought home some fresh cherries and I needed to use them soon, so I made this. I had made the recipe using blueberries before.

It turned out well and we had it for breakfast and Morgan got some too. It probably wasn't as tasty as a live lizard, but it was OK.
